Position Overview:
Our client, a respected law firm in Raleigh, NC, is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant with a background in construction litigation to join their team. The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of paralegal experience, with a minimum of two years in construction law, and demonstrate strong litigation support, case management, and court filing experience. This is a billable role supporting attorneys in a fast-paced litigation practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist attorneys with all aspects of construction litigation, including discovery, motions, trial preparation, and case management.
  • Draft, edit, and proofread legal documents including contracts (AIA and custom), pleadings, subpoenas, correspondence, and discovery responses.
  • Manage document production and organization through document management systems; maintain accurate case files both electronically and physically.
  • Prepare notebooks, exhibits, indexes, and timelines for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials.
  • File legal documents in federal and state courts, including experience with North Carolina e-filing systems.
  • Track deadlines and maintain attorneys’ calendars including court dates, discovery schedules, and meetings.
  • Coordinate and schedule depositions, expert witnesses, client meetings, and internal team briefings.
  • Assist with client communication, intake, and case updates under attorney supervision.
  • Enter billable time and assist with the tracking of billable hours in accordance with firm guidelines.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of paralegal/legal assistant experience in a law firm, with 2+ years specifically in construction litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal court procedures, especially in North Carolina.
  • Proven experience with e-filing platforms in NC.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, and legal document management systems (e.g., iManage, NetDocuments).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to work under deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; must be a team player with a positive, professional attitude.
  • Demonstrated job stability (frequent job changes without solid explanation will not be considered).
  • Ability to work onsite full-time and hit the ground running with minimal supervision.

Education:
  • Associate’s Degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent experience required.
  • North Carolina Certified Paralegal (NCCP) designation preferred.
