Legal Assistant / Legal Secretary
Location: Houston, TX 77027
Compensation: Up to $75,000

A growing Houston-based law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant/Legal Secretary to support its litigation team. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in a similar role, providing administrative and clerical support to attorneys to help ensure smooth and efficient office operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and format legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, briefs, subpoenas, and appeals.

  • Draft correspondence, memoranda, and internal documentation as requested by attorneys.

  • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, hearings, and court appearances.

  • File legal documents electronically in compliance with court procedures and deadlines.

  • Organize and maintain both physical and digital filing systems.

  • Answer phones, direct calls, take messages, and communicate with clients, courts, and legal professionals.

  • Conduct basic legal research and compile case materials under attorney supervision.

  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail and oversee document deliveries.

  • Assist with timekeeping and billing, including preparing client invoices.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive client and case information.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; associate’s degree or legal certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a legal assistant or secretary in a litigation environment.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and legal document management systems (e.g., iManage, NetDocuments).

  • Excellent typing, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology, document formatting, and court filing procedures.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.

Work Environment:

  • Office-based position requiring extended periods of computer use.

  • Collaborative, high-volume legal environment.

  • Occasional overtime may be necessary to meet filing or court deadlines.
