Location: Columbus, OH
Job Type: Full-Time: $55,000-$65,000

Job Summary
Ohio CAT is seeking a dependable and experienced Generator Field Service Technician to perform diagnostics, service, maintenance, and repair of power generation equipment in the field. This position primarily involves working with Caterpillar equipment and requires travel to customer sites across the greater Columbus area using a company-provided service truck.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair a wide range of power generation equipment, including diesel and natural gas generators ranging from 5 kW to 2 MW

  • Perform preventative maintenance and emergency service on engines, switchgear, transfer switches, and related power systems

  • Use technical manuals and schematics to troubleshoot and perform repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications

  • Maintain detailed records of service work, parts used, and hours worked using the company’s systems

  • Communicate directly with customers to explain service findings, timelines, and next steps

  • Adhere to company safety policies and OSHA regulations at all times

  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of assigned service truck and tools

  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with equipment and service protocols

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certifications preferred

  • Previous experience in generator or heavy equipment service, including hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred but not required

  • Strong understanding of engine mechanics, electrical systems, and generator controls

  • Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams

  • Comfortable working independently in the field and managing service priorities

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in physically demanding environments, including climbing, bending, and standing for extended periods
