Reports To: Engineering Director

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled CAD Drafter to join our engineering team. This role is critical in transforming engineering concepts into precise, detailed technical drawings that meet our company's high standards. You will collaborate closely with engineers and production teams to create accurate 2D and 3D models for fabrication and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and modify 2D and 3D CAD drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software for metal fabrication projects.
  • Develop detailed technical drawings, models, and documentation that align with project specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and production teams to ensure feasibility and manufacturability of designs.
  • Generate cutting nest documents for CNC plasma and beam saw operations to optimize material usage.
  • Perform design reviews and quality checks to maintain accuracy and precision.
  • Stay up to date with industry standards, design trends, and emerging technologies in CAD drafting and metal fabrication.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including Bill of Materials (BOMs), technical reports, and engineering change notices.

Qualifications & Skills

✅ Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in CAD drafting and design (preferably in metal fabrication or a related industry).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D), SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, drafting techniques, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal design, welding processes, and fabrication techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with engineers and production teams.

💡 Preferred but Not Required:

  • Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a related field.
  • Experience with CNC programming, nesting software, or ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication, machining, or welding is a plus.
