A very exclusive private school in Washington, DC suburbs is seeking a highly motivated and organized Director of Finance and Administration to oversee Finance, Facilities, IT, and Human Resources. This prestigious institution is dedicated to excellence in education and creating a collaborative environment for students and staff alike.

General Description:

The Director of Finance & Administration serves as the key financial and operations officer of the organization. Extensive experience with non-profit accounting, including grants and program funding, is required. The Director oversees the Accounting and Finance Department and all its operations, including the general ledger, budgeting, payroll, financial management and reporting, audits, and legal compliance. Additionally, the Director oversees Human Resources, Facilities, and Information Technology functions, including computer and communication networks. The role also requires knowledge of basic contract law and regular interface with the school’s Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Duties:

  • Plan, supervise, review, and approve day-to-day operations and all accounting and finance functions—including payroll, general ledger, budget, forecasting, revenue collections, and accounts payable. Manage and forecast cash needs.

  • Work with the Board of Directors to manage the investment portfolio and provide periodic financial reports.

  • Coordinate the annual external audit, including audit schedules and draft financials, A-133, and Form 990.

  • Support grant reporting and related audits, negotiations, and compliance issues.

  • Serve as the key liaison with banking and investment companies.

Human Resource Duties:

  • Manage and oversee the Human Resources Manager.

  • Ensure HR policies and procedures comply with employment laws.

Information Technology and Facilities Duties:

  • Oversee the daily operational activities of the IT and Facilities Departments.

  • Plan IT operational improvements, updates, and ensure IT goals align with the strategic plan and acceptable standards.

  • Ensure the continuity and security of the school’s network and systems through monitoring, risk assessments, and audits.

  • Supervise the Facilities Manager and establish standards for facility maintenance and security.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years proven experience supervising an Accounting and Finance department, preferably at a not-for-profit organization.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of fund accounting and internal control requirements.

  • Proven ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to diverse audiences, including the Board of Directors.

  • Technical proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with FundEZ preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR policies and procedures, with emphasis on employee relations and benefits.

  • Exceptional time management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a complex environment.

  • Attention to accuracy and detail with demonstrated high-quality work.

  • Well-developed problem-solving skills, flexibility, and creativity in finding solutions.

Job Type:

  • Full-time

Pay:

  • $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
