Our client, a respected nonprofit serving vulnerable populations across the Pittsburgh region, is seeking a mission-driven, strategic Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of impact and growth. This opportunity is ideal for a visionary leader who thrives in both high-level strategy and hands-on execution and who is passionate about increasing access to healthcare for underserved communities.
Each year, the organization hosts a large-scale, two-day free clinic that provides dental, vision, and hearing services to approximately 1500 patients, supported by a large volunteer base of clinical and non-clinical professionals. With strong community backing and plans to expand with “mini” clinics in rural areas, this is a pivotal time to step into a newly created leadership role and help shape the organization’s future.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Strategy and Leadership
Partner with the Board of Directors to execute a multi-year strategic vision
Lead staff, volunteers, and stakeholders in promoting collaboration and service excellence
Represent the organization publicly, including in the media and at community events
Program and Operational Oversight
Oversee the planning and execution of the annual flagship clinic
Support the development and launch of smaller rural satellite clinics
Improve operational efficiency through enhanced policies, systems, and data collection
Community and Government Partnerships
Build relationships with health systems, public agencies, and community partners
Establish follow-up care pathways and advocate for continuing education credit opportunities
Promote systemic healthcare access improvements for underserved populations
Fundraising, Budgeting, and Financial Management
Lead fundraising strategies including grant writing, donor engagement, and sponsorships
Manage financial planning and oversight with support from accounting professionals and the Board
Ensure compliance and donor stewardship for all contributions
Board Governance and Stakeholder Relations
Act as the liaison between the Board, Advisory Committee, and operational staff
Deliver regular updates, reports, and strategic insights to support Board effectiveness
Maintain legal compliance and ethical standards in all nonprofit operations
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit leadership, public health, business administration, or related field required; master’s degree preferred
Minimum of 5 to 7 years in executive or senior-level nonprofit leadership, ideally within healthcare or community-based services
Proven success in donor relations, fundraising strategy, and grant management
Strong financial and budgeting skills with fiscal accountability
Excellent relationship-building and communication skills with diverse stakeholders
Deep commitment to health equity and nonprofit mission-driven leadership
Experience with federal health programs or public health policy is a plus
