Position Overview

The Manufacturing Cost Estimator / Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role in evaluating customer prints, building cost models, developing routing strategies, and supporting process planning for new and existing products. This position interacts closely with engineering, tooling, operations, and sales while helping ensure competitive and accurate estimates for stampings, fabricated components, and machined parts.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in metal stamping, fabrication, machining, or tooling who enjoys both technical analysis and hands-on engagement within manufacturing.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer prints, models, specifications, and requirements to create accurate cost estimates and routings

  • Build cost models for metal stampings, welded assemblies, laser-cut parts, and machined components

  • Determine material utilization, nesting strategies, tonnage requirements, and scrap factors

  • Analyze cycle times, setup times, labor content, tooling needs, and machine utilization

  • Collaborate with tool and die makers, process engineers, and operations leadership to validate assumptions

  • Support the development of process plans, routings, and standard work documentation

  • Participate in design-for-manufacturability reviews and recommend cost-efficient alternatives

  • Maintain costing standards and improve quoting accuracy over time

  • Support APQP, PPAP, and new product introduction activities

  • Engage with leadership on key programs and customer opportunities


What You Bring

  • Experience in manufacturing engineering, cost estimating, tool and die, stamping, fabrication, or machining

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, 2D/3D drawings, and customer specifications

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as metal stamping, fabrication and welding, laser cutting, and CNC machining

  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with Excel and cost models

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams

  • Continuous improvement mindset

  • CAD or ERP/MRP experience is a plus
