Resident Assistant

The Resident Assistant provides information, assistance, and security to the program and its guests. Also responsible for providing assistance in the supervision of shelter clients and ensures a safe environment is provided for all.


Assures that Daily/Weekly/Monthly schedule of chores are completed by residents in a satisfactory and timely manner.
Assigns tasks to residents of Shelter and assures they are carried out satisfactorily.
Support service delivery to include, but not limited to; laundry, chores, meals, intakes and discharges, including emergency intakes.
Assures that bathrooms have sufficient personal supplies on a daily basis.
Ensures responsibility for the safety of the shelter on a daily basis and respond appropriately to emergencies.
Assumes responsibility for observing when maintenance supplies need re-ordering and informs Operations Manager accordingly.
Assumes responsibility for storing maintenance supplies in proper location and keeping an adequate supply available for daily use.
Observes where repairs/replacements may be needed and reports same to Operations Manager for direction and follow-up.
Work to maintain a safe and secure environment both inside and outside properties for clients, staff members, volunteers and visitors; by utilizing all security systems and equipment, including the alarm system, cameras and walkie-talkies.
Assist with the orientation of residents and/or volunteers. Provides guidance and assistance to by being observant and attentive to both positive and negative behavior and reporting activities to supervisor (as needed).
Willingly works with clients and volunteers, demonstrating the philosophy of the program through participation in activities, positive communication, and helpful attitude.
React to emergency situations appropriately and in a professional manner.
Work as a member of a team environment in collaboration with all other employees and volunteers to deliver the highest quality services to all clients.
Complete incident reports for any incidents occurring within or surrounding perimeters of the facility.
Assist program staff in defusing hostile situations by using CPI methods of intervention.
Conduct security rounds.
Perform other duties as assigned.


High School Diploma or GED preferred.
1 year of security, or shelter monitoring, experience with skills in client crisis response preferred.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
