Job Summary:

As a Direct Support Specialist you will have the rewarding opportunity to empower individuals with developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. You will play a key role in providing personalized care, assistance, and support to promote their overall well-being and independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualized Care: Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met.

  2. Personalized Assistance: Assist individuals with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and medication management, as outlined in individualized care plans.

  3. Skill Development: Support individuals in developing essential life skills, such as communication, social interaction, and independent living skills.

  4. Community Integration: Encourage community participation and inclusion by planning and facilitating outings, social activities, and recreational opportunities.

  5. Behavioral Support: Implement behavioral support plans and strategies to address challenging behaviors, ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals.

  6. Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of services provided, progress, incidents, and behavioral observations.

  7. Safety and Well-Being: Ensure the safety, health, and security of individuals, including monitoring their physical and emotional well-being.

  8. Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of individuals to ensure their rights and preferences are respected, and their needs are met.

  9. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including therapists, case managers, and healthcare professionals, to provide comprehensive care.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred).
  • Previous experience working in a direct support role, preferably with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Compassion, patience, and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of others.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to various situations and address challenging behaviors effectively.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if required).
